(FORT WAYNE) - The Allen County sheriff’s department will continue testing a new type of police car this year by adding a few more Dodge Chargers to its fleet.
The department bought three of the sporty sedans in August so different officers could drive them in different conditions.
The sheriff had intended to order at least 12 Chargers this year, if the price was right, to replace aging Ford Crown Victorias or Chevrolet Impalas.
Unlike the impalas, both the Chargers and Crown Victorias have rear-wheel drive, which gives officers better handling at high speeds.
