(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard is calling the 2008 general session a “win” for Marion County taxpayers.
Ballard says he is pleased lawmakers were able to reach a deal to cap property taxes. He also says this is setting the stage for eventually repealing property taxes altogether.
At the same time, Ballard says he is "disappointed" the legislature did not pass the rest of the "Indianapolis Works' plan to consolidate the fire departments into Indianapolis.
Ballard says, with the tax levees changing, the city and county will still have to make some budget cuts. Ballard thanked lawmakers for picking up police pensions pre-1977.
