(ELKHART) - It’s a tough situation in Elkhart. There’s been 32 home burglaries in just the last 10 days and investigators say they’re not happening in a specific part of town, making it even more difficult for them to catch the criminals.
Lt. Ed Windbigler said its tough for officers to be everywhere and they can't predict when the next one will happen. He says it appears there may be more than one group committing these burglaries.
A lot of them are happening during the daytime hours. The robbers are taking money, jewelry, and electronics.
Windbigler recommends that residents watch out for neighbor's homes and call police if there's any suspicious activity.
He says the city plans to bring back neighborhood watch groups, which have dwindled over the years.
