Courthouse Security System Reveals Knives, Ammo, Axes

Last updated on Sunday, March 30, 2008

(KOKOMO) - Employees at the Howard County courthouse feel much safer since officials installed a metal detector and x-ray machine in late August to screen visitors and employees.

In the first six months with the new system, security officers have screened over 104,000 people and found items ranging from knives and switchblades to ammunition, axes and a machete.

Sheriff Marty Talbert said he was astonished by the items found in the first six months.

Visitors who refuse to go through the screening process are told to leave the building.
