(CROWN POINT) - Crown Point’s new restaurant smoking ban will go into effect on Tuesday, and restaurant owners getting ready.
The ordinance, which was passed in December, covers all enclosed public places with the exception of retail tobacco stores, bars and private clubs. Smoking is prohibited within 15 feet from a building's exterior.
Former councilman Mike Conquest led the push for the smoking ordinance. He said the three months between the ordinance's passage and April 1 gives restaurants a grace period.
He said the idea was to promote a healthy dining atmosphere.
