(SOUTH BEND) - Officials say a gun dealer convicted of illegally selling a gun used by the man who fatally shot a South Bend police officer died of injuries he suffered during a prison fight.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago says 32-old Jason Katz of South Bend was serving his nine-month sentence Thursday when he got into a fight with another inmate. Katz died Thursday at a Chicago hospital.
Shaw says the incident remains under investigation by the FBI.
Katz had been imprisoned since November after he pleaded guilty to illegally selling a handgun at a local gun show to Scott Barnaby, who killed Corporal Nick Polizzotto in April.
Polizzotto was slain while responding to a call of a man firing shots at an unoccupied nightclub and a billboard.
