(INDIANAPOLIS) - A decade old St. Patrick’s Day tradition continued this morning with the greening of the Downtown Indianapolis canal.
Mayor Greg Ballard poured green coloring into the water to kick off the city's St. Patrick's Day celebration. Ballard says it's a fun way to celebrate the city's and nation's Irish heritage.
Indy's official leprechaun Michael McCracken says it's also the official kick off to spring and a reason to have a cocktail or two.
The greening of the canal began in 1997.
