(INDIANAPOLIS) - Don’t panic when you get a letter in the mail from the IRS this month. They’re just reminding you to file a 2007 tax return so you can get that federal rebate check in May.
An individual taxpayer gets anywhere from $300 to $600 while a married couple receives $600 to $1,200. Parents get an additional $300 for each child younger than 17. People who usually aren't required to file a return must do so this year in order to receive the rebate.
Jodie Reynold with the IRS says if you choose direct deposit when you file your tax return, then the rebate will go right into your bank account after May 2nd. Otherwise, the IRS will mail you a check after May 16th..
Reynolds says the IRS letter is the only contact you'll get from them about the rebate.
