(INDIANAPOLIS) - The mother of a 4-year-old boy killed last March will serve prison time in connection with the death.
25-year-old Courtney Simpson of Indianapolis will serve 30 years in prison for neglect of a dependent. She pleaded guilty to the felony charge and faced up to 50 years in prison.
Her 4 year old son Elijah was beaten to death last March by her fiancee' Christopher Montgomery. He was found guilty of murder last week.
Simpson came home from work to find the boy injured from being beaten and hogtied by Montgomery, but then went to sleep. She testified in Montgomery's trial that he threatened to kill her and her two other young children if she took Elijah to a hospital.
Simpson's attorney said they will appeal the sentence.
