Police Consider Driver Fatigue In Deadly Semi Crash

Last updated on Wednesday, March 5, 2008

(FRANKLIN) - A truck driver is dead after being impaled by a fence post when his tractor trailer went off Interstate 65 south of Indianapolis and crashed through some trees.

Indiana State Police say 47-year-old Elvin Stanley of Chicago was pronounced dead at the scene early Sunday morning.

His blue 2006 international tractor trailer was heading south on I-65 around 1:00am. When it left the road, went down a small embankment and hit the trees. It then drove through a fence before stopping behind a Franklin business.

Police say a fence post flipped up and crashed through the truck's windshield, impaling Stanley.

Investigators say driver fatigue may have been a factor in the crash.
