(WEST LAFAYETTE) - Purdue University is increasing security on the West Lafayette campus by locking all residence hall doors, except the front door, 24 hours a day.
Purdue Spokeswoman Jeanne Norberg says no specific threat prompted the change. She says the decision was made as part of security reviews the university conducts regularly.
Like many universities, Purdue also utilizes a new cell phone and e-mail notification system to contact students in case of a campus-wide emergency.
Norberg says the system is capable of reaching all 60,000 students within seven minutes.
