(FORT WAYNE) - Tons of road salt are en route to Allen County to replenish a diminishing supply in the highway storage barns after county officials pleaded for more.
The county began rationing road salt this week because of dwindling supplies and concerns that more might not be available.
Allen County uses about 600 tons of salt each time it snows and only a third of that amount was in the storage barns Friday afternoon.
