Simon Tower To Address Bed Shortage At Riley Hospital

Last updated on Wednesday, March 5, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A ceremonial topping of a new building for Riley Hospital For Children.

Construction workers put a beam signed by Riley patients and staff on top of the new Simon Tower. The tower is slated to partially open next year, although an exact date has not been set.

The Simon Tower will be the biggest building on the IUPUI campus and will add hundreds of new beds to Riley.

Hospital President Ora Pescovitz says the facility will address a critical bed shortage for the hospital. The building also will have private rooms for all patients.

Last year, Riley saw more than 200,000 Hoosier kids from all 92 counties. Funding came in part from a donation from the Simon family.
