(LAFAYETTE) - Three more locations near Lafayette could Join benton County in producing electricity from the wind that blows across rural land.
Invenergy Wind North America is developing the tri-county wind energy center. It's looking at starting wind farms on property in Southwestern Tippecanoe, Northwestern Montgomery and Northeastern Fountain counties.
A maximum of 500 megawatts of electricity, generated by approximately 344 wind turbines, is possible through the three-county project. Nearly 90 wind turbines have already been built near Earl Park in Benton County and are scheduled to be activated next month.
