(INDIANAPOLIS) - ATA workers are stunned by news of the airline’s bankruptcy.
Employee Bob Vorpe found out he was unemployed by listening to the news. A ten-year employee says co-workers saw the writing on the wall, yet the announcement is still a surprise.
Another ATA worker says the company did everything it could for employees.
A steady stream of employees could be seen carrying boxes and bags away from the ATA headquarters near Indianapolis International Airport. Workers hugged, packed their personal belongings and said goodbye.
One employee didn't say a word -- instead he held up a large bottle of bourbon as he drove off.
ATA employed 2,230 people. 585 of them were based in Indianapolis.
