(MERRILLVILLE) - A well-known Northwest Indiana defense attorney and three others were killed in a three-vehicle crash at a Merrillville intersection.
Attorney Garry Weiss was killed in the crash last night, a day after a Gary firefighter he defended was convicted of operating a dogfighting ring out of his home.
Police say a man driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee ran through a stop sign last night and struck the passenger side of a Chevy Blazer. The Blazer then crashed head-on with Weiss' Ford Mustang.
The 30-year-old driver of the Grand Cherokee also was killed. Police were not releasing his name because his family had not yet been notified.
The driver of the Chevy Blazer, 26-year-old Steven Hough of Merrillville, and his passenger 25-year-old Amy Bartelmey of Hobart, were also killed.
