(INDIANAPOLIS) - More than 40,000 Hoosiers whose lives have been touched by breast cancer are gathering at IUPUI this morning for the annual race for the cure.
Indy's 5k run is one of 115 organized worldwide by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation in the course of the year.
With 42,000 runners pre-registered, co-chairman Tom Miltner expects the race to raise about $2.5 million for breast cancer research, patient advocacy, screenings and treatment. Miltner calls the event a "celebration of life."
Thousands of breast cancer survivors will parade through downtown before the race, demonstrating their triumph over the disease.
