Police: Another False Lead In Bank Teller Shooting

Last updated on Monday, April 28, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis Metro Police got another false lead in the eastside bank robbery where the pregnant teller was shot, but arrested the man on other charges.

Sergeant Paul Thompson of IMPD says on Friday night police stopped a tan Dodge Intrepid in the 9400 block of east 44th Street like the one wanted in connection with the robbery.

The driver. 26 year-old Derek McFarland of Indianapolis, was arrested for possession and dealing cocaine and possession of a handgun. But McFarland told police he knew who shot Katherin Shuffield in the Huntington Bank holdup.

Police investigated, questioned and released the person he named and now McFarland may also face charges of giving police false information.
