(FORT WAYNE) - Police are bumping up patrols outside Fort Wayne middle and high schools after some students received text messages Sunday warning of violence.
The extra patrols were planned in the wake of nine recent homicides, before the text messages were received. Investigators believe the murders are related to gang violence and drugs.
Fort Wayne Community Schools Spokeswoman Krista Stockman says school resource officers have been placed on "high alert." She says gang and drug activity will not be tolerated.
The source of the messages is still under investigation.
