(MERRILLVILLE) - Some gulls around lake and porter counties have been looking a little blue the past week — and now the state Department of Natural Resources is trying to figure out why.
Some speculate the birds may have been shot with paintball guns. But Gary bird expert Carole Kozlowski says she's seen the birds close enough that the coloring on their feathers looks natural.
Kozlowski believes the birds have veered off their usual migration path to get food because of changes in weather.
