(LAFAYETTE) - Three people were cut by knives when a brawl broke out Monday night during an open gym session at a Lafayette church’s community center.
A Tippecanoe County sheriff's deputy says the fight at Faith Community Center started on a basketball court and spilled into a lobby, where about 20 people fought and some furniture was thrown.
Police found two knives at the scene and arrested two men on felony charges of suspicion of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and battery with a deadly weapon.
Center Development Director Arvid Olson says the fight started when a group of men confronted a team playing basketball. The center has an open gym every Monday night, and a volunteer says most of the people who use it are not members of Faith Baptist Church.
