(INDIANAPOLIS) - The father of a five-year-old who shot and killed his four-year-old sister is facing charges.
James Booher is facing three counts of neglect after his son Devon climbed a bookcase over the weekend and shot his sister Makayla in the head.
Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi says this was "abuse in the highest degree." Police were called to the same apartment eight months ago after the little boy got ahold of the gun and fired one shot into a cabinet.
Brizzi says the apartment was filled with weapons including hunting knives, swords, and Chinese stars. Brizzi says the simple act of leaving the gun on a bookcase was bad enough.
The two children were removed from Booher and Michelle Vensko back in 2004 because of abuse allegations. The children were returned in 2005. Vensko is not living with Booher right now.
