(INDIANAPOLIS) - They likely didn’t fly here first class, but two male koalas boarded a Southwest Airlines flight from San Diego to Indianapolis Tuesday.
The two koalas are coming to the Indianapolis Zoo for the summer. Spokeswoman Judy Gagen says Bamba and Coombah, will be in a special exhibit, made to match their Australian habitat.
Koalas only eat eucalyptus. Gagen says it will be shipped to the zoo weekly. The animals have such a poor diet that they spend most of their day sleeping.
The Queensland koalas are on loan from the San Diego Zoo.
The koala exhibit is open to the public May 24 through Sept. 1.
