(UNDATED) - Governor Mitch Daniels has been visiting Indiana troops in Iraq and says morale appears to be high.
He's been learning about missions Hoosier soldiers are participating in, such as convoy logistic patrols, forced protections and the Iraq- based industrial zone initiative.
"There's no part of this assignment as governor that I take more seriously than the work of the Indiana National Guard," Daniels told members of the 76th Infantry Brigade Tuesday as he and National Guard Bureau Chief Lt. Gen. H. Steven Blum met with them.
Indiana currently has the largest deployment of National Guard members in the Middle East.
Daniels says he has a bag full of phone numbers of troops' moms, dads, spouses and significant others that he'll be calling when he gets back to Indiana. The governor says service members are always glad to receive "care packages" from home and establish pen pal relationships.
