(UNDATED) - The high gasoline prices may prevent some Hoosiers from traveling long distances for vacation this summer… but they might discover that they don’t have to go very far to have a good time.
Curt Brantingham with the Indiana Department of Tourism Development says some might enjoy hiking and biking in the state parks. Or popular attractions like Holiday World, Splashin' Safari or Indiana Beach.
For those who want to get away for more than a day, they might want to consider a bed and breakfast. There are over 30 wineries in Indiana. Nashville in Brown County is a year- round attraction and some might find smaller towns like Richmond and Madison interesting to visit.
Brantingham says many Hoosiers who live in Southern Indiana might never have visited South Bend or the Amish country in the northern part of the state. While residents in Northern Indiana might enjoy visiting communities along the Ohio River. And of course, the covered bridges in western Indiana are popular attractions.
