Lucas Oil Stadium Sustains Damage In Tuesday Storm

Last updated on Thursday, July 10, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Lucas Oil Stadium sustained water damage in three areas during Tuesday night’s storm.

John Klipsch with the Stadium Building Authority says three of the stadium's 20 roof drains failed, causing the most serious damage in the data center located on the lower floor of the northeast corner. The small room, containing equipment that controls the stadium's phone, Wi-Fi and internet access, had up to three feet of water in it.

An area on the southwest side also suffered water damage to the walls and ceiling tiles. The third drain failed around the loading dock area but caused no damage.

The water leaks caused no structural or roof damage and did not affect the playing field or seating areas.

Klipsch says it's too early to tell, but they're assessing whether the roof drains failed due to a design, manufacturing or installation problem. He says insurance will cover the damage and doesn't expect repairs to delay the opening of the stadium next month.
