(BEECH GROVE) - A Beech Grove police officer is recovering from injuries after he was dragged by a car he pulled over for a traffic violation.
Lieutenant Scott Ferrer, an 11-year veteran of the force, was working with the Marion County Traffic Safety Partnership and was running radar when he pulled over a car driven by 28 year old Matthew Thomas. Police say Thomas was driving with a suspended license.
While Ferrer had his arm inside the car, Thomas sped away, dragging the officer for approximately three- tenths of a mile. The officer's injuries are not considered life- threatening.
Thomas was eventually apprehended. Thomas could face charges as serious as attempted murder.
Police are checking into the possibility that he might be on probation from a previous conviction.
