(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indianapolis police officer suffered a devastating gunshot wound to the head while trying to apprehend a suspect in last week’s brutal homicide.
29-year-old narcotics officer Jason Fishburn was shot in the head and torso in the ensuing gun battle. The 36-year-old shooter was wounded in the shoulder. Both were taken to Wishard Hospital where officer Fishburn underwent surgery Thursday night. The suspect is now in custody and police have not yet released his name.
Sergeant Paul Thompson with Indianapolis Metro Police says officers from the violent crimes unit had the suspect under surveillance for a couple of days. They tracked him in a vehicle driven by a woman and closed in on him. The suspect jumped out the vehicle and ran for a block before gunfire was exchanged.
