(TERRE HAUTE) - A man who was recently charged in the murder of an elderly woman some 24 years ago — was found not guilty late Friday night. Kevin Weeks was accused of the bludgeoning death of 89-year-old Loretta Keith back in 1984.
DNA evidence collected at the scene - as well as an allegation made by Week's former classmate led to Week's arrest. But the jury found Week's guilty of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury - not murder.
And - according to Week's attorney, the robbery charge falls outside the statute of limitations. Weeks' attorney says she plans to file a motion to throw out the robbery conviction.
Weeks could go free as early as Monday.
Another man, David Scott, was convicted for the woman's slaying. He spent 23 years in prison, and was released this past January.
