(NEW ALBANY) - Two suspects are accused of stealing copper in Floyd County.
Authorities say Eric Nance and Matthew Howerton are connected to several thefts across the area.
Police made the arrests Monday after they were called to a house fire. Officers discovered the two suspects were allegedly burning the coating off copper wire, so they could later sell it.
Detectives recovered many items -- identified as stolen from at least four businesses -- worth about $300,000 dollars.
Police also say Matthew Howerton and two other suspects face charges for metal theft at Floyd Central High School.
