(INDIANAPOLIS) - The board of the Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority, who shepherded the three year construction of Lucas Oil Stadium, briefly celebrated its opening before turning their attention to the doomed RCA Dome.
The Dome will be down by the end of the year to make room for the expansion of the Indiana Convention Center.
Tom Sheele with Shiel Sexton Construction says you still won't see evidence of the demolition of the dome until the inflatable roof is collapsed late in September.
Trucks will haul away debris from the interior for several weeks until an implosion brings down the rest of the dome in early December. Structural steel will appear in January as the convention center expansion takes over the footprint of the RCA Dome.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2010.
