(INDIANAPOLIS) - Family, friends and fellow firefighters memorialized Indianapolis fire captain Gary Henry who was killed Monday while serving in the Indiana National Guard in Iraq. He was also a reserve Marion County sheriff’s deputy.
Gary Henry and his cousin, Battalion Chief William Brown, joined the Indianapolis Fire Department at the same time. Brown has requested the department honor Captain Henry by retiring his badge number.
Gary Henry had retired from the Indiana National Guard but rejoined last fall and was assigned to the 38th military police company, based in Danville. He began his first tour of duty in Iraq in May, training Iraqi police officers.
He leaves a wife and three children.
