(INDIANAPOLIS) - Marion County citizens who help prevent crime in their neighborhoods were recognized during the annual Crime Fighter of the Year awards.
It's part of "National Night Out Against Crime" which promotes police-community partnerships to help make neighborhoods safer. Deputy Mayor Olgen Williams congratulated the winners on standing for what is right in their communities.
Lowering a neighborhood's tolerance level for crime keeps criminals out according to Scott Newman with the Department of Public Safety.
Mayor Greg Ballard has always emphasized the importance of community involvement in reducing crime.
