(GARY) - Gary police and firefighters are fighting Mayor Rudy Clay’s order for 20 percent salary reductions in all departments because the city is facing a $13-million dollar budget shortfall.
Gary's fraternal order of police has obtained a temporary restraining order to stop the pay cut for Gary police officers until a hearing can be held.
The firefighters' union goes to court Thursday seeking to enforce a previous ruling that said at least four firefighters were needed to staff an on-call truck. The city wants to cut the number of firefighters on an on-call truck to three.
