(MERRILLVILLE) - Governor Mitch Daniels has declared a disaster emergency for a portion of Northwest Indiana inundated by floodwaters.
Daniels toured the region Tuesday by boat and air, saying the damage is widespread.
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jill Long Thompson also toured the region -- and was critical of the Daniels administration's response to the flooding. She claims the state Department of Transportation is making flooding worse in Munster by pumping water from highways into the Calumet River.
