(UNDATED) - Governor Mitch Daniels has requested that President Bush add Harrison, Jefferson and Jennings counties to the disaster declaration for severe weather that began September 12.
If granted, the federal disaster declaration would qualify residents for individual assistance.
On September 23, Lake, Laporte and Porter counties were designated for federal assistance.
Two more state disaster assistance centers will open in Laporte and Porter counties. The centers in Valparaiso and Laporte will be open starting today.
Nearly one thousand people already have received help at the three Lake County assistance centers that opened Thursday to help victims of severe weather that occurred when the remnants of Hurricane Ike passed through Indiana on the weekend of September 13.
Daniels also said that further assessments are being conducted elsewhere, and disaster declarations are still a possibility for Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Martin, Perry, Spencer and other counties.
