(HOUSTON, TEXAS) - It’s the calm before the next storm. Indiana Task Force One is in Houston, Texas, anticipating the arrival of Tropical Storm Ike.
Team Manager Patrick Harper says the group is looking forward to the break. The task force was previously deployed to Louisiana to help victims of Hurricane Gustav.
Harper says FEMA is busy preparing for the trio of storms churning up the Atlantic. Tropical Storm Hanna is expected to make landfall somewhere from Florida to North Carolina before Friday evening. Tropical Storm Ike could start affecting the Gulf of Mexico early next week. Tropical Storm Josephine is expected to be near hurricane strength next Wednesday or Thursday.
Harper says the group will continue to stage in Houston, calling it a wait and see game.
The task force is comprised of 84 members, including doctors, firefighters, communications specialists and structural engineers. They also have four FEMA trained canines.
