(LAFAYETTE) - Local and state officials gathered in Lafayette to break ground for a portion of the Hoosier Heartland Corridor.
The four-lane highway is 26 years in the making, and thanks to $1.5 million dollars in federal funding, construction can begin on the Lafayette to Logansport segment.
State Representative Sheila Klinker says this road project will be a benefit to drivers. This section of road would be the final component needed to finish the entire stretch.
The corridor will run from Lafayette to Fort Wayne and is scheduled to be completed by 2013.
