(INDIANAPOLIS) - There is a shift from the suburbs to urban areas, so says real estate expert and author Christopher Leinberger.
He has written a book about what he calls "urbanism", which is a shift toward the creation of walkable urban places and away from suburban drivable areas. He says development will continue in suburban areas, like the ring around Indianapolis, but the trend is hitting the Circle City.
He says the development of the cultural trail downtown is a step toward urbanism. Leinberger adds the housing meltdown will speed up the effort to create walkable urban areas.
He also says mass transit development helps as well, a topic Indianapolis is discussing. Leinberger was the keynote speaker at the 31st Annual Monumental Affair.
