(CRAWFORDSVILLE) - Wabash College has withdrawn recognition of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and terminated the on-campus lease of the Beta Psi chapter.
An 18-year-old freshman from Tucson, Arizona, Johnny Smith, was found dead at the fraternity house early last month. His death has been blamed on alcohol poisoning. His family says he felt pressured to drink by other fraternity members.
Wabash College President Patrick White says the all-male school's investigation of Delta Tau Delta shows "a culture and practice of ungentlemanly behavior and irresponsible citizenship."
The frat house has been converted to a residence hall, with two advisors moving in immediately. Former members under the age of 21 are being allowed to remain if they wish.
Those who are 21 or older must move out. They're being offered alternate housing on-campus. The Beta Psi chapter was formed at Wabash College in 1872.
