(UNDATED) - Indiana State Police First Sergeant Dave Bursten says be observant when you’re out shopping over the holidays.
Bursten suggests that you don't load yourself up so much that you can't see where you're walking or can't pay attention to what's happening and don't make yourself be a target of opportunity.
If you're making a lot of purchases, make several trips to the car and don't put them inside where they can be seen and invite someone to break into your car. Put packages in the trunk.
If you're concerned about your safety, have mall security escort you to your vehicle.
And motorists are reminded to abide by the rules and avoid getting a ticket, especially since extra officers are on patrol.
