(UNDATED) - Indiana is celebrating world diabetes day.
The Indiana war memorial turns blue today to raise awareness about the growing epidemic.
Jennifer Pferrer, executive director of the American Diabetes Association in Indiana, says more than 700-thousand Hoosiers have the disease.
One in four has not yet been diagnosed.
But Pferrer claims 80 percent of us can avoid it through healthy eating and exercise.
Diabetes remains the sixth leading cause of death in Indiana, and the leading cause of blindness, kidney disease and amputation.
Events to mark world diabetes day are also being held in downtown Evansville, and at Riley'S Hospital for children in Indianapolis on Saturday.
