(INDIANAPOLIS) - Mayor Greg Ballard is kicking off a citywide initiative to bolster local food banks ahead of the holidays.
He is encouraging all local businesses to hold a food-drive today. The food would then be given to local shelters and food banks like Gleaners, Wheelers Mission Center and the Salvation Army.
Ballard says he's visited shelters and things are different this year--that's why he's calling his initiative "This Time, it's Different." He says even if it hurts a little, we all need to step up and donate food to help those in need. He says it's going to be tougher this year.
He is working with the Colts, Pacers and schools and businesses to collect food.
