ISP Replacing Memorial Monuments Across State

Last updated on Monday, November 24, 2008

(UNDATED) - The Indiana State Police memorial monuments, honoring officers killed in the line of duty, are being replaced.

Made of 2,200 pounds of more durable black granite, they replace the monuments put in place 15 years ago. The face is etched with the ISP door shield and this inscription: "As we that are left behind grow old, they shall not grow old, age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn at the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them."

Displayed on the opposite side are the names of 45 department personnel who have lost their lives in the agency's 75-year history. The names appear below the badge of the Indiana State Police and the logo of the Indiana State Police Alliance.

The Alliance is funding the $40,000 project through private donations. If you'd like to give, you're invited to call 317/636-0929 or 800/382-1104.
