(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Israeli youth treated at Riley Hospital is ready to return to his home.
14-year-old Naftali Shitrit was shot multiple times by a Palestinian gunman in Jerusalem. Naftali spent months in Israeli hospitals before it was decided his best chance lie in reconstructive urological surgery at Riley Hospital For Children in Indianapolis.
Naftali traveled to a city he had never heard of with his father and grandfather for the delicate procedure. After surgery and first class care, Naftali is ready to return to Israel. His doctors expect the boy to make a full recovery.
Rabbi Yisrael Gettinger with the congregation B'Nai Torah says the Jewish community provided support to the Shitrit family through kosher food and hospital visits.
Rabbi Gettinger says he found the boy's spirit and his absence of bitterness and hatred to be inspiring.
