(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Greater Indianapolis Red Cross wants everyone to “be Red Cross ready” when it comes to winter weather.
Resource Development Specialist Carol Greeley says it's important to have your emergency preparedness kit winterized by adding gloves, hats, snow boots, and cat litter for traction to the regular severe weather essentials like water, food, flashlight, first aid kit, ad a battery-operated radio.
Greeley says you should get a plan so everyone in the household knows what to do and who to contact.
The third and final "be Red Cross ready" step is to get informed by knowing alternative routes of travel in case of bad roads and knowing any school and workplace procedures.
Disasters in winter weather can come in many different forms including snow storms, ice storms, or residential fires in sub-zero temperatures.
November 16th through the 22nd is Winter Weather Preparedness Week.
