(INDIANAPOLIS) - Emerging trends in cancer research, diagnosis and treatment are being discussed at the cancer-oncology summit in Indianapolis.
Dr. Mark Kelley with the IU Simon Cancer Center says it's an opportunity for Indiana's oncology professionals to learn what's going on from research and clinical trials to bedside practices throughout the state.
He says there's a trend among the major pharmaceutical companies to focus more on oncology. Instead of standardized cancer treatments, therapies are now being developed to target specific cancers, also known as personalized medicine.
Dr. Kelley says the summit is also an opportunity to boost the entire state's reputation for cancer research, diagnosis and treatment.
