(UNDATED) - Starting next month, families of troops called to active duty will be able to take time off work to deal with the resulting upheaval.
The first significant changes to 1993's Family and Medical Leave Act take effect in mid-January.
Relatives of active-duty military will be eligible to take three months off without pay, relatives of injured service members can take six months unpaid leave to care for them.
