(UNDATED) - Believe it or not… it’s almost time for the 2010 US Census to get underway.
Census forms will be mailed out in March of 2010 -- just over a year from now.
Sandy Appler is with the US Census Bureau overseeing the state of Indiana. She says it's vital that those forms be filled out and sent back.
She says the census is done every ten years as required by the US constitution to reapportion congressional districts. Appler says the census information is also used to determine how many federal dollars communities get for programs like head start, public transportation, highway construction and even emergency shelters.
Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel has formed a "complete count" committee in Evansville to get the word out about the importance of cooperating with the US Census. That committee is made up people from government, business, social services agencies, churches and the news media.
