(UNDATED) - Indiana is among a few states enjoying low gasoline prices.
The statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is now $1.56 compared with three dollars last year at this time.
Ball State Economist Michael Hicks says you're not likely to see a "gas price war" again, but you could find a competitive skirmish between gas stations trying to claim the lowest gas price on the block.
He says a station's profit margin on gas hasn't changed much throughout the price fluctuations. But at least now their employees don't get complaints like they did when it was four dollars a gallon.
Greg Seiter with the AAA Hoosier Motor Club recommends shopping around for gas prices just as you would for food or clothing.
